Oracle announced major changes to Java SE at end of 2017: a transition to a six-month version lifecycle, and the end of free support for business users. How should you prepare? Tamás Hegedüs published an article in Bitport.hu.
Oracle announced changes to Java SE licensing at the end of 2017. Since these changes come into effect within a month, it is worth reviewing them and their effects in detail. Business users are going to feel the impact on two fronts. First, Java has transitioned to a six-month release cycle. Secondly, which is undoubtedly the more painful of the two, free public updates to Java SE 8 will not be available anymore and Oracle Java SE 11 is not going to be free for commercial use.
This will make a big difference, since Java is one of the most popular programming language and platform today.
