BKV Zrt. is a company operating public transport in Budapest, which is 100% owned by the Municipality of Budapest. On 1 January 1968, it was established as the Budapest Transport Company by merging the independent transport companies (Budapest Electric Railway, Budapest Bus Company, Budapest Local Interest Railway, Budapest Shipping Company) of the then unifying network of lines.
The company operates 4 major sectors (bus, trolleybus, tram, and metro) in an integrated system. In addition, it also operates boat services, which are mainly of tourist interest, the cogwheel railway, the HÉV lines, the Libegő, and the Sikló.
