Following the strategy created in 1995 by the National Institute of Hematology, Blood Transfusion and Immunology (OHVII), in 1996, the Minister for Public Welfare established the National Blood Supply Center (OVK), an institution for further development. Decree 26/1998 (VI.17.) NM established the National Blood Supply Service at the legislative level, but its actual organization and operation – in which 44/1999 Eü.M. Decree was a key element – started on July 1, 2000. The organization consists of 26 regional institutions, with 28 hospital transfusion units closely linked to their contracted tasks.
